Part-Time Membership Director

Reports To: Board President

Position Summary:

The Membership Director is responsible for recruiting, retaining, and engaging Chamber members while ensuring members receive maximum value from their investment. This position serves as the primary liaison between the Chamber and its members, fostering strong relationships, promoting member benefits, supporting Chamber events and programs, and contributing to the organization's growth and financial sustainability.

The ideal candidate is an energetic relationship-builder who is passionate about supporting local businesses and strengthening the community through Chamber membership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Membership Recruitment & Retention

  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit new Chamber members.

  • Conduct outreach through phone calls, emails, networking events, and personal visits.

  • Manage membership renewals and retention efforts.

  • Track membership trends and identify opportunities for growth.

  • Maintain accurate membership records in the Chamber database.

  • Prepare and distribute membership invoices and renewal notices.

  • Follow up on unpaid memberships and lapsed members.

Membership Engagement & Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries.

  • Ensure members understand and utilize available benefits and opportunities.

  • Conduct regular member check-ins

  • Welcome new members and coordinate onboarding activities.

  • Develop recognition programs to highlight member achievements and milestones.

  • Coordinate Member Spotlights and ribbon cuttings.

Events & Programs

  • Support Board in planning and promoting networking events, educational programs, and community activities.

  • Attend Chamber events and serve as a Chamber ambassador.

  • Solicit sponsorships and encourage member participation in events.

  • Encourage member involvement in committees and volunteer opportunities.

Communications & Marketing

  • Develop membership marketing campaigns.

  • Develop content for newsletters, social media, website updates, and membership materials.

  • Promote member benefits, programs, and success stories.

  • Oversee the production, ad sales, and distribution of Chamber publications and directories.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate membership data and reporting systems.

  • Track membership goals, retention rates, and engagement metrics

  • Analyze membership trends and recommend improvements.

Community Relations

  • Represent the Chamber at business functions, and networking events.

  • Build relationships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders.

  • Serve as an advocate for Chamber members and the local business community.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field preferred.

  • Two or more years of experience in membership development, sales, customer service, marketing, nonprofit management, or a related field.

  • Chamber of Commerce or association experience is desirable.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Sales and customer service experience.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Quickbooks Online, and social media platforms.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to speak confidently to groups and represent the Chamber professionally.

Performance Measures:

Success in this position may be evaluated by:

  • New member recruitment goals achieved.

  • Membership retention rate.

  • Increase in social media following.

  • Sponsorship and partnership growth.

  • Contribution to overall Chamber revenue goals.

Position Details:

  • Part time 20-25 hours per week

  • Salary range $28,000-$30,000 depending on experience with incentive compensation for new memberships

  • Two weeks of paid vacation and 10 paid holidays

  • Combination of remote, and community-based work

  • Frequent interaction with business owners, community leaders, and volunteers

  • Occasional evening and weekend events required.

  • Local travel required for member visits and Chamber functions with mileage reimbursement
